Finance Director – North America

The Finance Director North America (NAM) is responsible for directing the forecasting, budgeting and financial analysis in North America. The position is further responsible for providing financial leadership, guidance and assistance to all functional leaders and locations. This includes conducting financial and business analyses to identify potential problems and recommended solutions, preparing/supporting the development of annual strategic plans and financial budgets, as well as driving working capital and productivity improvements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work closely with functional and business unit leaders in conducting detailed financial and business analyses to identify potential problems, determine root causes and recommend appropriate solutions
  • Develop and maintain forecasting processes that accurately predict future performance and motivate actions to insure it hits agreed-upon target
  • Develop and maintain functional and business unit reporting processes that accurately describe the performance of key business and financial parameters
  • Lead financial portion of the strategic planning process, ensure that results from initiative are properly scoped, presented, tracked and reported
  • Generate the annual financial budget
  • Submission of accurate financial statements that are in compliance with US GAAP and DHR accounting practices
  • Drive the use of DBS and continuous improvement within the NAM Finance Organization

Internal Control Systems

  • Collaborates with the Accounting and Controllership team to develop and maintain appropriate internal controls

People Development/Process Improvement

  • Develop financial personnel to grow professionally, ensuring sufficient opportunities are created to enable career development within Hach and across Danaher
  • Contributes to improving transactional and closing processes from a time, accuracy and productivity perspective

Working Capital Reduction

  • Provide leadership, direction and processes to global operating unit leaders to drive significant WC improvements
  • Monitor Working Capital improvement results and, where appropriate, insure that effective countermeasures are developed and implemented
  • Accurate and timely consolidation and analysis of NAM operating unit actual results and variance to forecast/budget
  • Minimize surprises through effective prevention and early communication

Acquisitions

  • Assist in the financial evaluation of potential acquisition targets
  • Lead financial due diligence for target acquisitions
  • Assist the integration process for “back office” functions

RELATIONSHIPS

  • Reports to the Hach VP Finance, CFO
  • Direct a small Financial Planning and Analysis team
  • Partners with Hach Group Finance and Water Quality Finance leadership

MAJOR OBJECTIVES AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTORS

  • Ability to prioritize on a real time basis
  • Be able to have influence peers, subordinates and superiors
  • Analyze complicated issues and boil down to the key points, develop action plans and implement
  • Must have strong managerial courage – ability to make the tough decision and to not be overly sensitive (thick-skinned), be able to effectively play catch ball (idea/issue back and forth discussion) and think on their feet
  • Will display and operate in a way that never compromises Ethics and integrity, and will be non-political in all dealings and operate with very high levels of transparency

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting
  • CPA/MBA preferred
  • 5 to 10 years of increasing responsibility in various accounting and finance roles
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage financial activities in a global and matrix organization
  • Ability to effectively partner and influence senior level cross-functional teams
  • Ability to drive alignment and trade-off decisions across the organization
  • Experience in implementation of financial accounting systems is a plus
  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills, strategic thinking and a command of the details
  • Guide, motivate, and develop direct and indirect teams
  • Ability to deal with conflict, and manage expectations
  • Ability to work independently and solve complex problems
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with Oracle, HFM, OneStream, and similar software a plus
  • Accepts and embraces a stretch culture environment with a positive can-do attitude
