FINANCE MANAGER

Woodward

This is a Full-time position in Fort Collins, CO posted September 15, 2021.

Position Purpose  This position reports to another leader within the finance organization and is responsible for designated finance activities that are relatively broad in scope. Designated finance activities may include, but are not limited to, various areas of financial accounting and reporting and/or financial planning and analysis. This position covers scope of activities that are considered financially significant to the company, using criteria similar to that used to determined financial significance for Sarbanes-Oxley purposes, which may include multiple sites, a single site, or a major portion of a business group. This position also works across business groups in various areas. This position may also participate in due diligence and post acquisition activities for the group or for other groups. 

Essential Functions 

  • Leads a team of finance professionals and/or supervisors to achieve the objectives of assigned responsibilities, driving a lean/continuous improvement climate
  • Responsible for recruiting, retaining, coaching and developing team members
  • Effectively manages department resources through organizing, prioritizing, and distributing work assignments. At the same time, considers development opportunities of team members as assignments are made
  • May serve as a integral member of the staff of a key business group leader (Group VP or Group Director) on an indirect reporting line basis
  • Acts as a financial consultant to non-finance leaders and members in the organization
  • May participate in strategic planning, preparing and interpreting analysis that leads to the setting of strategic objectives and implementation plans
  • May lead and be responsible for the annual budget process and periodic financial forecasts and projections, including a rolling forecast, as required, for areas covered by a scope of activity that would be considered financially significant under criteria similar to the criteria used for Sarbanes-Oxley purposes
  • May be responsible for supporting business analysis activities for various financial decisions, such as make vs. buy decisions, capital investment decisions, business opportunity decisions driven from commercial activities and in connection with the product life cycle, among others
  • May coordinate with other finance team leaders and members to analyze and interpret monthly, quarterly and annual financial results compared against budgets, forecasts, and prior periods
  • May be responsible for all accounting processes, leading to the timely and accurate reporting of financial results for the specific responsibility area and in compliance with established internal control guidelines for a scope of activity that would be considered financially significant under criteria similar to the criteria used for Sarbanes-Oxley purposes
  • Effectively communicates financial results and the results of financial analysis to others within the organization, in small and large group settings
  • May participate in due diligence and post-acquisition activities for the business group or other business groups
  • May coordinate internal control monitoring (including SOX) and external and internal audits for areas within scope of responsibilities

Other Functions 

  • May lead or participate in global projects as assigned
  • May direct the specific planning activities of financial managers, analysts and/or accountants at other locations, as needed, to ensure regional/segment consistency

Job Requirements:

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities  

  • Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and various financial analysis tools, such as discounted cash flows, activity-based management, and variance analysis
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Strong project management skills, interpersonal skills, and written/oral communication skills
  • Strong leadership skills conducive to fostering a lean/continuous improvement environment among the manager’s team and peers
  • Skilled in use of computer software, systems and tools
  • Ability to effectively lead cross-functional and cross-organizational teams
  • Effectively makes recommendations and influences decision making
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks and coach members on managing their priorities and tasks
  • Demonstrates sound and logical thought processes when making decisions and giving direction

Education or Formal Training  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (or equivalent)
  • Advanced credentials such as MBA or CPA a plus

Experience Required  

  • 5+ years accounting and financial experience that includes progressively more complex assignments or projects
  • Substantive experience leading others

Woodward offers an extensive Total Reward package for this position, including:

Estimated pay:  $107,000 – $130,000
