You will find Nordson employees sharing our success by giving back in the communities around the world where we live and work.The Assembly technician is primarily responsible for creating assemblies from shop order reference drawings and work instructions utilizing manual and automated equipment. The Assembly Technician will also complete in process product inspections and assembly equipment setup, cleaning, testing and operation. This position operates in a product high mix team environment where astute attention to quality and detail are required.Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities* Executes all requirements for assembled products according to specifications and procedures using manual, semi-automatic, and fully automatic techniques with jigs, fixtures, hand tools, ultrasonic welders, pick and place robots, and o-ring installation equipment and other automation.* Reads specific work instructions, shop orders, routers and interprets drawings to ensure proper assembly line setup and correct part number to shop order relationships.* Inspects constituent components and finished goods visually and mechanically for leaks and other defects to ensure component integrity.* Cross trains and operates as a back-up for Product Prep and Packaging functions including the creation and verification of proper bag and tub labeling information as specified for each Shop Order.* Fulfillment of shop order pick lists and staging, maintains, and ensures component lot traceability and part number conformance.* Responsible for periodic reporting of labor hours at specific tasks, assembly operation cycle times, activities, in process shop order progress, etc.* Responsible for participation in continuous improvement activities and initiation. .* Adherence to all clean room procedures and practices.* Gives ergonomic, design and process feedback to Manufacturing Engineering or external designers of assembly fixturing and automation.* Reads shop orders, travelers, routers and drawings to ensure proper assembly line setup and correct part number to shop order relationships.* Trains new or temporary employees on assembly cell equipment or procedures as required.Non-Essential Duties & Responsibilities:Performs other duties as assigned, verbal and written.Education and Experience Requirements* High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED), at least 1-3 years experience in the assembly of small parts, or the equivalent combination of training, education and experience.* Proven proficiency in setup and operation of plastics joining and assembly methods.* Proficient in visual and statistical inspection methods and component handling.* Proven track record working on repetitive detail oriented tasks.Preferred Skills and Abilities* Strong analytical capabilities. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.* Critical thinking capabilities. Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.* Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to follow diagrams and pictures. Ability to follow instructions carefully.* Ability to arrange items or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules.* Good interpersonal and communication skills to be able to work well in a team environment.* Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractionsComputer Skills:* Proficient in use and navigation of Windows operating system in a networked environment. Frequently (34-66%) required to reach with hands and arms. Occasionally (6-33%) required to stand, walk, talk, hear, stoop and squat. Rarely (0-5%) required to crawl, kneel, climb or balance. Ability to use hands and arms in handling, positioning, manipulating and moving small parts. Ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble small parts. Manual dexterity and coordination in the handling of small parts and the ability to carry out complex repetitive tasks quickly and methodically. Continuous (67-100%) repetitive actions requiring hands/wrist inflexion/extension, grasping and turning, fine manipulation and speed work is required. The employee must frequently lift/carry and push/pull 25-50 pounds. Work in area adjacent to equipment which may emit noise levels up to 80 db. Must be able to work in a manufacturing environment where standing for up to 8 hours a day, or sitting for up to 8 hours a day may be required, and where the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles and occasionally exposed to high, precarious places. Excellent visual acuity, specific vision abilities required by this job include; close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Must wear shop coat, hair net, and facial hair net when applicable. Must wear protective gloves and eye protection when applicable.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
