Responsible for all aspects of environmental control, staff personnel, materials and equipment, and the analysis and evaluation of nursing service for quality improvement.

Works directly with the Surgery Manager to maintain the department budget.

Responsible all duties outlined on Surgery RN job description.JOB QUALIFICATIONSEducation or Formal TrainingSpecial Qualifications (Licensure, Registration, etc.)Colorado RN License in good standingCurrent BLS required within 3 monthsSpecialty certification encouragedMember of professional organization encouragedExperienceMinimum of two years of experience in ORService line management experience preferredESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESDirectly performs or assists Surgery Manager with the following:ManagerMonitors and implements department budget to include productivity, staffing, supplies, equipment, and capital improvements for service area.

Assists Surgery Manager in interviewing and hiring of personnel based upon department needs.Shares employee performance on established performance standards with Surgery Manager.Continually evaluates service care delivery systems and follows up appropriately.Supports and ensures compliance with hospital, division, and departmental policies, procedures, and standards.Participates in division, hospital, and community committees/tasks forces and projects.Promotes and directs departmental, division, hospital goal identification and attainment.Creates an environment conducive to professional staff growth to promote recruitment, retention, and quality patient care.Actively participates in peer review process.Consults with and/or advises appropriate personnel of situations requiring follow up or attention.EducatorResponsible for overseeing orientation of new personnel assigned to service.Identifies and meets staff educational needs as specific to service.Monitors staff development activities.Identifies and meets own educational needs.Acts as a resource person in the development and implementation of comprehensive teaching care plans.Quality Assurance and ControlCoordinates development of quality indicators for service/department.Evaluates quality of services based upon established standards and problem solves as appropriate.Develops, implements, and monitors quality assurance plan for department in compliance with Joint Commission and hospital standards.Practices and promotes universal precautions appropriately.Develops policies to guide the department’s practices and procedures.PlannerPlans service goals and objectives to support departmental plan.Plans equipment needs on a daily basis and coordinates specialty need for capital equipment planning.Is aware of changes in case levels, indicating increased needs for specialty equipment and double-booking.Clinical Patient CareDemonstrates advanced knowledge of care of the peri-operative/peri-anesthesia patient in all age ranges.Demonstrates clinical competency with complex skills and acts as resource person.Anticipates changes in the patient’s condition and demonstrates appropriate follow through.Demonstrates independent nursing decisions in patient care.Coordinates the care of the patient with the health care team, patient, and patient’s family.WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIESPhysical working environment may include, but not be limited to, any of the following hazards:ChemicalElectronicMechanicalBiowasteExplosiveRadiationLaserLaser plumeStressBack strainBody fluids, etc.Environmental conditions may include, but not be limited to, variations in temperature, noise, odors, multi-stimuli, etc.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to constantly stand and walk.The employee frequently is required to stoop, crouch and twist.The employee is occasionally required to kneel, squat, and sit.The employee must be able to consistently support, push, pull and/or lift up to 10 pounds, frequently support, push, pull and/or lift up to 30 pounds and occasionally support, push, pull and/or transfer up to 50 pounds (for example, moving a patient from a wheelchair to a bed.)Functional physical demands include manual dexterity, fine motor skills and reaching.The following senses will be needed for essential duties of the job: speech, vision, hearing, smell, and touch.Uncompromising medical excellence, delivered with the values of respect and compassion.
