Description of Work Unit

The Microbiology, Immunology and Pathology ( MIP ) Department is comprised of over 400 individuals who share a common passion for solving some of the most important human and animal health problems today. There are currently 9 board certified veterinary clinical pathologist within the department, providing various percent efforts in the areas of teaching, research, and service. The Clinical Pathology Laboratory is part of the Veterinary Health System and provides diagnostic services to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital as well as the broader veterinary community. Research programs in MIP include those related to mycobacteria, retroviruses, prions, and arthropod-borne infectious diseases, as well as the diagnostic investigation of naturally-occurring animal diseases. A leader in education, MIP contributes to veterinary and undergraduate education as well as a graduate program that provides training in a number of cutting-edge disciplines and several specialized veterinary residency training programs.

Position Summary

The department accepts applications on an ongoing basis from individuals who are interested in providing diagnostic services in the Clinical Pathology Laboratory. The Research Scientist /Scholar- open positions may be part- or full-time, temporary or special assignment, and may be for limited time periods. This is an open pool, and applications will be forwarded to open positions as they become available.

The individual will be part of a team of veterinary clinical pathologists providing diagnostic services to a busy and growing cytopathology service. Additional services include CBC review, protein electrophoresis, and ancillary testing. There will be plenty of opportunity to interact with other pathologists, residents, students, and laboratory staff.

Depending on needs and position, there may be opportunity for teaching and/or time to participate in diagnostic and collaborative research projects.

This position would be classified as a Research Scientist/Scholar I, II or III depending on experience.

Required Job Qualifications

Qualified candidates will have a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree (or equivalent) and have completed an ACVP certified clinical pathology residency training program. Candidates must be eligible for a Colorado academic veterinary license. Both ACVP board eligible and ACVP Diplomates are encouraged to apply.
