HP: Virtual Reality Software Manager

The Virtual Reality (VR) business of HP (http://www8.Hp.Com/us/en/solutions/vrready/index.Html) is a fast growing, fast moving, high performance, high-integrity, and fun organization looking for motivated and talented team members with a passion for customers, quality, and of course VR.

Our team has recently released the Omnicept solution (https://www8.Hp.Com/us/en/vr/reverb-g2-vr-headset-omnicept-edition.Html) and we are looking for a candidate with the passion, mindset and proven history of creating and executing on a strategy in a new growth technology area as we move the solution forward.

This position is for an R& D manager on the Software Virtual Reality team, located in Fort Collins, Colorado.

The selected candidate will be part of an R& D team designing commercial VR platforms and solutions for HP customers.

For this position, Software Engineering Manager is defined as a blend of people management and advanced SW knowledge to strategize, architect and innovate complex technical solutions.

As the Software Engineering Manager your primary responsibilities will include:Helping to create and drive the VR strategyStaffing and people management of a diverse SW teamSW Team execution of the VR goals Your team will be responsible for design, development, maintenance, testing, quality, and performance assurance of system software and solutions used in HP VR solutions.

Your team’s software deliverables will fall into three major categories:(1) Major enhancement and new product design.

Designs and develops major functional or performance enhancements for existing products or produces new software products or tools.(2) Quality and performance assurance.

Review requirements, specifications, and designs to assure product quality; develops and implementsplans and tests for product quality or performance assurance.(3) Maintenance and enhancement.

Makes changes to system software to correct errors in the original implementation and creates extensions to existing programs to add new features or performance improvements.

Manager work within this job includes: Applies advanced subject matter knowledge to manage staff activities in solving common and complex business/technical issues within established policies.

Manages non-exempt/exempt individual contributors and/or supervisors.

Has accountability for results of a major program in terms of cost, direction, and people management.

Provides guidance on process improvements and recommends changes in alignment with business tactics and strategy for area of responsibility.

Plans, manages, and monitors operational/tactical activities of Staff.

Staff members’ work will involve strategic issues.

Recruits and supports development of direct staff members.Responsibilities may include:Working with VR business leads to create product strategy and definitionInfluencing the VR solution roadmapLeading engagements with technology vendors for both current and future business needsProvides direct and ongoing leadership for a team of individual contributors designing and developing new products, enhancements, and updates.

and coordinating projects for systems software, including operating systems, compilers, networking, utilities, databases, and Internet-related tools.Manages headcount, deliverables, schedules, and costs for multiple ongoing projects, ensuring that resources are appropriately allocated, and that goals, objectives, timelines, and budgets are met in accordance with program and organizational roadmaps.Communicates project status and escalates issues to direct managers, program managers, and internal and external development partners.Manages relationships with outsourced partners and suppliers, including setting expectations regarding deliverables, product quality, schedules, and costs; ensures that team members are effectively communicating and collaborating with outsourced resources.Proactively identifies opportunities for process improvement and cost reductions opportunities.Provides people-care management for assigned team members, including hiring, setting and monitoring of annual performance plans, coaching, and career development; ensures that proper knowledge and career development tools are in place to support ongoing team member and process development.Leads multiple project teams of other software systems engineers and internal and outsourced development partners responsible for all stages of design and development for complex products and platforms, including solution design, analysis, coding, testing, and integration.Manages and expands relationships with internal and outsourced development partners on software systems design and development.Frequently represents the software team to management and other internal groupsActs as an expert providing direction and guidance to process improvements and establishing policiesProvides domain-specific expertise and overall software systems leadership and perspective to cross-organization projects, programs, and activities.Refactoring and developing new software architectures to support new capabilities (both hardware and software)Defining new feature acceptance criteria with MarketingParticipating and leading technical meetingsParticipating and leading development processesDriving steady and regular cadence of public software application releases Preferred Education and Experience:Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems or equivalent with a minimum of 6 years’ experience in software development, processes, and methods.
