Cancer Data Registrar – Oncology Services

Boulder Community Hospital

This is a Contract position in Boulder, CO posted May 13, 2022.

Per Diem, Days. 8 hours/week.

Pay Range is between $23.39-$35.07/hr, depending on years of relevant and like experience.

**Range includes per diem differential

Complete coordination of all the activities of the Cancer Registry at Boulder Community Hospital, including Tumor Conferences and the annual report according to the requirement of the State of Colorado and the American College of Surgeons.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS Education or Formal Training

  • Accredited Record Technician (RHIT), Registered Record Administrator (RHIA) or Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) preferred.

  • ICD-9 Coding, cancer staging. Expertise in word-processing and Rocky Mountain Cancer Data System (or similar automated cancer registry system)

    Special Qualifications (Licensure, Registration, etc.)

    RHIT, RHIA or CTR as above

    Knowledge, Skill and Ability

  • Must have knowledge of all ACOS and State of Colorado requirements for Cancer Registry accreditation process for a Community Cancer Care program, including Cancer Registry abstracting and report writing, annual reports, and Tumor Conferences

  • Must have ability to analyze and abstract patient records with speed and accuracy

  • Must be detail-oriented with excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Must have ability to make independent decisions over and above those outlined in procedures.


  • Two (2) years experience as the coordinator in an ACOS accredited Cancer Program

  • Must have been responsible for the production of the Annual Report and planning of Tumor Conferences as required by American College of Surgeons, patient care evaluations, as well as procedures for reporting to the state


  • Office environment utilizing computer terminal and printer, FAX machine.

  • Must be able to locate, pull and file patient medical records for abstracting.

  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds (patient records).

  • Must have ability to reach, stretch, bend, stoop, sit at desk for prolonged periods with concentration, stand, walk to other areas and to physicians’ offices.


    Must have excellent communication skills (written and verbal) to interact with Medical Staff, Cancer Committee, Pathology Department, Imaging Department, Radiation Therapy Center, Education Department, Medical Record Department, and Regulatory Agencies.


    Supervise Tumor Registry abstractors or technicians when necessary


  • Coordinate all activities of the Cancer Registry with the Cancer Program.

  • Prepare annual reports and other reports necessary for accreditation by ACOS and State of Colorado.

  • Compile statistics as required by the State, ACOS and other requesting agencies.

  • Coordinate, plan, attend, document, and promote attendance at all Tumor Conferences in coordination with Cancer Care Center.

  • Cntribute to patient care assessments as needed in coordination with Cancer Care Center.

  • Coordinate case finding, abstracting, and follow-up of all required cases.


  • Pull medical records as needed for abstracting.

  • Audit path reports and other reports for case finding.

  • Help in overall functions of Medical Record Department as needed.
