Department Information

The University of Northern Colorado is located in Greeley, Colorado, population over 100,000, an hour’s drive north of Denver, and within driving distance of the Rocky Mountains. UNC has an enrollment of over 12,000 students who attend classes on the 250-acre campus, and is large enough to provide true University opportunities, and small enough to treat students and employees as individuals.   • Monitor completion of degree requirements for individual students, including intermediate and periodic review; work with Registrars Office to operationalize this for graduate students.

  • reconcile program requirements with student records to verify graduation eligibility;

  • resolve program discrepancies in cooperation with faculty advisors, program coordinators, and students and serve as mediator/liaison;

  • grant extensions for completion of graduation requirements based on merit of request and extenuating circumstances;

  • monitor completion of provisions for students admitted with academic provisions.

  • Apply graduate school policies to student programs; decide petitions for exception to policy.

  • Approve exceptions to Graduate School policy (Examples: program time limits, course waivers and substitutions);

  • terminate or deactivate student programs;

  • track petitions for exceptions to improve program quality;

  • detect violations of policy by researching data and student records;

  • study information and seek out additional information related to a student program and analyze for attaining common goal or agreement to facilitate successful student programs in collaboration with faculty members, directors, other college deans and the students;

  • compare policy, precedents, and current practices for outcomes;

  • serve as primary resource individual regarding Graduate School policy and procedures to entire campus community.

  • Modify and upgrade operational processes for Graduate School.

  • Modify and upgrade operational processes and procedures to maintain the essential functions for the Graduate School.

  • Manage Cayuse: Graduate Education Manager (GEM).

  • Automate functions for finding students out of compliance with enrollment requirements; communicating with those students.

  • Automate communication with low-GPA students.

  • Tracking and communicating about return dates for students on Leave of Absence.

  • Update and revise publications (handbooks, catalogs) and internal documents and processes to reflect programmatic changes.

  • Make independent decisions about the process for updates.

  • Work leader in ensuring submissions to update graduate catalog.

  • Policy, Degree Works, and Graduate Education Manager Training.

  • Pedagogical and presentation decisions.

  • How to improve use of Degree Works and GEM

  • What policies need to be updated.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a field of study related to the work assignment.

Two years of professional experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position.

Substitutions:

Additional appropriate experience will substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Additional appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
