Senior Director, Enterprise Strategic Services – Boulder, CO

The Senior Director, Enterprise Strategic Services (ESS) leads the operational delivery of an integrated analytics and strategic portfolio services function in support of a long term Optum-client partnership.  As a highly visible client facing leader of the Optum ESS function, the Senior Director works closely with the Optum-client partnership executive, responsible for overall partnership success, and other Optum functional leaders to drive high value analytics and consulting services in support of Optum’s and the partnership client’s missions.  Successful leadership in this role requires change management leadership, and collaboration in a matrixed environment to drive best practices, achieve high levels of client satisfaction and financial performance across the Optum-client partnership.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership and is accountable for the overall performance and direction of analytic and strategic portfolio services for Optum-client partnership, including Optum-delivered services and consulting initiatives
  • Collaborates with Optum account team leadership and Optum partnership leaders to optimize enterprise strategic services aligned with client priorities and insure seamless integrated delivery of in scope functions across the Optum-client partnership
  • Partners with client executives and key stakeholders to develop and execute an analytics strategy that addresses client’s business needs (current and emerging), supports clinical excellence, provides measurable value, drives growth, and increases client engagement / loyalty
  • Leads effort to drive commercial consulting engagements using Optum capabilities designed to generate strong client ROI
  • Collaborates with Optum Clinical Continuum leaders to identify and implement shared risk models to support client migration to value-based care
  • Leads efforts to continuously innovate analytics solutions and a highly collaborative delivery partnership with the client and internal business leaders, incorporating market and competitive perspectives into the analytic strategy development
  • Provides oversight and leadership to enable execution of prioritized enterprise-wide strategic portfolio initiatives
  • Works closely with the client and internal stakeholders to proactively establish integrated, best-in-class solution designs that translate strategies into specific initiatives to advance client goals and meet or exceed contract Service Level Agreements
  • Establishes and maintains service roadmaps to develop an integrated, innovative solution across all analytics services
  • Participates in project governance and relevant client committees
  • Supports service deployment and efforts to optimize the enterprise strategic services function and closely monitors performance, working with Optum Account leadership, finance and operations to ensure financial viability, operational excellence and high client net promotor scores
  • Guides others in resolving business problems through risk mitigation to ensure seamless service execution and high level of patient experience
  • Builds a collaborative culture of partnership between Optum and client leaders, acting as an advisor and influencer with senior leaders
  • Partners with the Optum analytics Center of Excellence to drive scalability in analytics delivery and to leverage existing capabilities more efficiently
  • Partners with Optum Advisory Services leadership to implement scalable, repeatable strategic portfolio services that drive customer value across client strategic programs and initiatives
  • Promote clear, concise lines of communication with all partners including internal and client partners to ensure efficient and effective implementation of service priorities
  • Reviews and addresses concerns on performance measures and overall financials across all analytics and strategic portfolio services
  • Supports the maintenance and ongoing modification of an enterprise-wide prioritization model
  • Establishes and maintains an enterprise-wide strategic initiative reporting and monitoring tool for appropriate reporting across governance and relevant client committees
  • Cultivates a distributed analytics team that works top of license while creating open channels of communication to foster teamwork and success

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 10+ years’ experience leading healthcare focused analytics and /  strategy teams
  • 5+ years senior leadership experience at the director level or above within a provider health system OR management consulting experience at the senior manager or above in the health system segment
  • 5+ years of experience with healthcare data assets and analytical processes
  • 5+ years with health system technical systems including EHR’s and ERP’s
  • Knowledge of payer and provider partnership models, including contracting mechanisms and various financial relationships
  • Ability to travel up to 10%
  • Exceptional writing and presentation skills
  • Local to or willing to relocate to Boulder, CO region  

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master in Public Health, Healthcare Administration, Business, Analytics, Informatics, Data Science or Related Field
  • Executive presence and client facing skills
  • Experience supporting change management and data-driven based decision making
  • Action oriented – take concepts and bring to action
  • Experience and credibility interacting with C level executives, including medical directors
  • Self-starter
  • Experience working in a matrix environment leading and influencing complex change
  • Experience working with remote teams, including offshore resources
  • Depth of knowledge related to clinical excellence, population health, health system strategy, operational efficiency, consumerism, and health system financials
  • Extensive knowledge of analytical methodologies, processes, models and algorithms

Colorado Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $130,300 to $250,200.
